FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Axle.
What is Axle?
Axle is a payment plugin for Framer that makes it easy to accept Stripe payments. You can add a checkout button to your Framer site without writing code.
Axle handles the complexity of connecting to Stripe, managing payment sessions, and handling success/failure flows so you can focus on your business.
How does Axle make money?
Axle charges a monthly subscription fee (Pro at $15/month, Pro+ at $29/month) with 0% commission on your sales. Your only other cost is Stripe's standard processing fee (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction).
For pricing details, see the Plans page.
Is Axle safe? Can I trust it with payments?
Yes. Axle uses Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment processors. Axle itself never handles card numbers or sensitive payment data — all payment information is sent directly to Stripe using encrypted connections.
Your data is protected by:
- PCI compliance — Stripe maintains PCI DSS Level 1 certification
- Encryption — All payment data uses HTTPS and encryption in transit
- Stripe security — Stripe handles all tokenization and fraud detection
Axle is just a connector to Stripe. Your security is backed by Stripe's proven infrastructure, not Axle's.
Which countries does Axle support?
Axle works in any country where:
- Stripe has a presence
- You have a Stripe account
- Your customers can complete a Stripe checkout
Currently, Stripe supports 195+ countries. Check Stripe's country and currency list for the most up-to-date information.
How does money flow from customer to me?
Here's how it works:
- Customer pays — Customer enters their card and completes Stripe checkout
- Stripe charges card — Stripe verifies the card and processes the charge
- Axle fee deducted — Axle's transaction fee is deducted from the amount
- Money goes to Stripe — Remaining amount is held in your Stripe account
- Payout to your bank — Stripe pays out to your linked bank account (usually weekly)
Example: $100 payment with 3% Axle fee:
- Customer charged: $100
- Axle fee: $3
- Your receive: $97 (minus Stripe's separate fee)
All of this happens automatically. You don't need to do anything.
When do I get paid out?
Payouts depend on your Stripe account:
- Default: Weekly payouts to your linked bank account
- Timing: Funds appear in your bank 1-3 business days after payout
- Minimum: Some currencies/regions may have minimum payout amounts
You can change the payout schedule in your Stripe dashboard under Settings → Payouts.
Axle doesn't handle payouts — Stripe does. Check your Stripe account and bank statements for payout status.
Can I offer refunds?
Yes. To refund a payment:
- Log in to Stripe Dashboard
- Go to Payments
- Find the transaction you want to refund
- Click Refund and confirm
The refund will be processed back to the customer's card. For refund timing, see Stripe's documentation (usually 5-10 business days depending on their bank).
Axle itself doesn't manage refunds. All refunds are handled through Stripe.
Does Axle support subscriptions?
No, Axle does not support recurring subscriptions. Axle is designed for one-time payments.
For subscriptions, you'll need to:
- Use Stripe's Billing product directly
- Or use a service like Substack, Gumroad, or Memberful
We may add subscription support in the future. Check back for updates.
Can I sell digital products with Axle?
Yes. Axle works for any type of product or service, including digital products. You can sell:
- Digital downloads (ebooks, templates, software)
- Online courses
- Memberships
- Services
- Physical goods
- Anything else
Axle just handles the payment. You're responsible for delivering the product (email, download link, account access, etc.). For advanced delivery automation, consider a tool like Gumroad or SendOwl.
Can I use Axle on multiple websites?
Yes, but each domain needs to be added to your API key's allowed domains list.
To add a domain:
- Go to Axle dashboard → API Keys
- Click your key to view settings
- Add each domain you use:
site1.comandwww.site1.comsite2.comandwww.site2.com
- Save changes
You'll use the same API key across all domains. All transactions will appear in your Axle dashboard and Stripe account.
How is Axle billing structured?
Axle uses a monthly subscription model with no per-transaction fees:
- Free Trial — 7 days free, 50 transactions, no credit card required
- Pro — $15/month, 500 transactions/month, 1 domain, email receipts
- Pro+ — $29/month, 5,000 transactions/month, 10 domains, revenue analytics, CSV export, priority support
Transaction limits are a shared pool across all connected domains on your account — not per domain.
Your only additional cost is Stripe's standard processing fee (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). Axle takes 0% commission.
Save 20% with yearly billing. For full details, see the Plans page.
Can I cancel my plan?
Yes. To cancel:
- Go to Axle dashboard → Settings → Billing
- Click Cancel Subscription
- Confirm cancellation
After cancellation:
- Your checkout buttons will stop working immediately
- You can reactivate your subscription anytime to resume payments
- Transaction history is preserved
- No refunds are issued for unused transactions
Cancelling will disable all payments on your site. Make sure you're ready to stop accepting payments before cancelling.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Yes. You can change your plan anytime:
- Go to Axle dashboard → Settings → Billing
- Click Change Plan
- Select your new plan
- Changes take effect immediately
If you upgrade, you'll be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the month. If you downgrade, credit may be applied to your next billing cycle.
What if I don't use all my transactions?
Unused transactions do not roll over. Each month, your transaction count resets to the limit for your plan.
Example:
- Your Pro plan includes 500 transactions/month
- Month 1: You process 200 transactions
- Month 2: You have 500 new transactions available (not 800)
If you consistently don't use all your transactions, consider downgrading to a lower plan to save money.
Can I switch billing intervals?
Axle currently offers monthly billing. Annual billing may be added in the future.
To manage your billing, go to Axle dashboard → Settings → Billing.
Does Axle charge for failed payments?
No. You only pay Axle's transaction fee for successful payments. Failed payments are free.
Failed payments are those that:
- Customer declined (card declined, insufficient funds, etc.)
- Timeout before completion
- Were cancelled by the customer
Successful payments still incur Stripe's standard payment processing fee (separate from Axle's fee).
How long is the free trial?
Axle offers a 7-day free trial. After 7 days, you must upgrade to a paid plan to continue accepting payments.
During the trial:
- All features are available
- No credit card required
- You can process up to 50 transactions
- After 7 days, your account pauses and checkout stops working
To continue, upgrade to a paid plan before your trial expires.
What currencies does Axle support?
Axle supports any currency that Stripe supports. This includes:
- USD (US Dollar)
- EUR (Euro)
- GBP (British Pound)
- JPY (Japanese Yen)
- CAD (Canadian Dollar)
- AUD (Australian Dollar)
- And 150+ more
To use a currency, your Stripe account must be set to that currency. You can change your Stripe account's primary currency in Stripe Settings → Account Details.
